Small Business Association Honors Two Perryton Businesses

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recently recognized Watonga Cheese Factory and the Perryton Community Development Corporation (CDC) for their exemplary efforts and outstanding accomplishments.

Casey and Brandi Cowan, owners of Perryton-based Watonga Cheese Factory, received the SBA’s Small Business Persons of the Year award, and the Perryton CDC received the Financial Champions of the Year award for the West Texas district.

The SBA and the West Texas A&M Small Business Development Center hosted an awards luncheon Wednesday, June 19 at Frank Phillips College Allen Campus to honor the Cowans and the CDC.

“It’s such an honor to be accepting this award,” says Brandi. “We would like to thank our friends, family, employees, the Perryton CDC, and the community of Perryton for recognizing our hard work. Thank you for the opportunity to rebuild our business in your town and for welcoming us with open arms. You proved to us that although it wasn’t an easy decision to relocate here (from Watonga, Oklahoma), it was the right one.”

Sheryl Hardy, executive director of the Perryton CDC, says, “We’re very proud of Casey and Brandi’s success. It’s businesses like theirs that make Perryton the great town it is! We’re also honored to receive recognition for the Perryton CDC’s accomplishments. We have amazing board members, and it’s rewarding to see the positive impact that’s been made on the local economy.”

The Perryton CDC was nominated by the West Texas A&M Small Business Development Center in Amarillo, and they were selected for their commitment to community involvement, as well as their success in business recruitment, retention, and expansion. Their contribution to the local economy is perhaps most evident in the 760 jobs they have added to our community.

“We are proud of the Perryton Community Development Corporation and their staff for their outstanding contributions to the Perryton small business community,” says West Texas District Director, Calvin Davis. “We are extremely proud of their achievements and welcome the opportunity to recognize them.”
