Ready for the Rodeo

This weekend, if you’re looking for a way to celebrate summer’s start, you can head out to the rodeo. Today and tomorrow (June 3 and 4), the Top 9 Rodeo will take place at the Ochiltree County Arena new the Expo.

Sponsored by the Perryton Rodeo Association, each night’s rodeo start at 8 p.m. Admission is $5, but children five or under will be admitted free of charge.

Events will include bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. In addition, there will be calf scrambles and junior barrel racing, and the One Arm Bandit—a ten-time winner of Top Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) Specialty Act of the Year award—will perform.

There also will be special kids’ events for mutton bustin’ and donkey riding starting at 7 p.m. For each event, there will be $100 in prizes awarded. Each night for each event, first place will receive $35, and second place will receive $15. Each night’s winners will also qualify to ride in this year’s Top 9 Rodeo Finals in Mangum, Oklahoma. Mutton bustin’ is limited to the first 30 kids under 50 pounds and seven years old. Donkey riding is limited to the first 20 kids under 75 pounds. To enter, call 435-2587.
