Frank Phillips College Ranks Among the Nation’s Best

According to Washington Monthly, Frank Phillips College (FPC) is among the nation’s top 50 community colleges. It’s 27th to be exact and the highest-ranking community college in Texas.

Based on a combination of student satisfaction surveys and graduation rates, this year’s rankings take into account active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student-faculty interaction, support for learning, and four-year graduation rates. They ranked more than 650 different colleges to determine the top 50.

When the surveys were last completed in 2007, FPC ranked 26th. “We are very proud,” says Dr. Lew Hunnicutt, Frank Phillips College Allen Campus Dean.

Completed in 2005, the college’s Allen Campus in Perryton was funded entirely by grants and donations from the CDC and private parties, and it is completely free of debt. “That’s unbelievable in this day and time, and it’s a rarity among my peers at other satellite campuses,” says Dr. Hunnicutt. “It speaks volumes about the forward-thinking nature of this rural Texas town.”
