Business Owner Q&A: Denise and Rory Wilmoth of Expressions Flowers n Accents

Owned by Denise and Rory Wilmoth, Perryton’s Expressions Flowers n Accents is one of the area’s top flower and gift shops. Prior to owning Expressions, Denise worked as a mortgage and commercial loan officer at First Bank Southwest, and Rory worked in the oilfield. Rory was looking for a new career, and an opportunity presented itself, so the couple opened Expressions in November of 1994.

Initially, they offered fresh flowers and a few gifts. Today, they still serve as a full-service florist but also offer wedding and baby registries, Yellow Box shoes, Brighton accessories and shoes, home décor, gifts, design consulting, and wedding coordinating services.

Three years ago, they moved to their current location, which has three times as much space as their previous Main Street store. With the move, their inventory has also tripled, and their staff has increased to include three part-time employees. As the store has grown, the Wilmoths have established it—and helped establish Perryton—as a destination for out-of-town shoppers.

We spoke with Rory and Denise to see what makes them so successful and to talk about their involvement in the community. Here’s what they had to say.

What’s your secret to success?
Listening to our customers needs, being in the store as owners and knowing our customers, and offering a mixture of products with always something new to keep them coming back

Do you enjoy owning a retail store in Perryton? If so, why?
We love being in Perryton. Our customers are our friends, and it’s a pleasure offering them great customer service and great products.

Besides through your store, in what ways are you involved in the community?
We have been active members of the Chamber’s retail trade. Denise has chaired the Wheatheart Celebration Committee and Beehive board. Since we are empty nesters, we want to be more involved in our community to give back.

What are your future plans for the store?
In the future, we hope to give the store a facelift on the exterior. When we purchased the building, we updated the interior. We also will continue to provide a great shopping experience.
