The deadline to sign up for Leadership Perryton XIII is just around the corner! Applications are due July 25, and the program will begin on August 6.

The nine-month leadership series has been incredibly successful and beneficial over the past 12 years, and this year’s class promises nothing less. There will be first-rate speakers, workshops, tours, networking, a retreat, and more. Topics will include leadership styles, team building, customer service, communication, conflict management, dealing with difficult people and situations, diversity, and more. Local business and industry tours will help participants learn more about Perryton and the community.

This year’s program is open to 25 to 30 people. Participants will attend orientation at noon on August 6. At orientation, they will receive specific dates and additional information. There will be a three-day retreat at Ceta Canyon from September 20 through 22. In addition, there will be sessions one Friday each month from October 2014 through May 2015. The Friday sessions will cover a leadership topic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and then there will be an educational tour of a local business or industry. Tours include medical, oil production, county/city government, education, agriculture, and retail industries. A commitment to attendance is required.

The program is $625, which the attendee or employer may pay. Applications are available at the Perryton Community Development Corporation at City Hall (110 S. Ash St.) and at the Chamber of Commerce (2000 S. Main St.). The application deadline is Friday, July 25, and the fee will be billed in September; a payment plan may be accepted.

About Leadership Perryton
Leadership Perryton XIII is sponsored by the Perryton Community Development Corporation and the Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce. There have been 262 Leadership Perryton graduates during the program’s 12-year history. Many local businesses have sponsored one or more class members and/or have given monetary donations, prepared food, provided tours, or donated specialty items for the members.

Leadership Perryton is equal to or surpasses any leadership program in the nation. It offers national speakers, hands-on tours, networking opportunities, and skills that would cost much more money and time away from work if done through out-of-town professional conferences.

The program provides the following benefits:

  • A person new to Perryton learns about the community and meets people.
  • A person who has lived in Perryton learns new things about the community and meets new people.
  • All participants learn about themselves through self-analysis. They also gain self-confidence as they learn who they want to become.
  • Participants gain skills to improve communication and relationships in their family, at work, and in the community.
  • Each person gains new lifelong friendships, as well as networking contacts in all areas of the community.
  • The participants’ employers gain motivated employees who have increased confidence,
customer service skills, and new tools for leadership.
  • The community gains residents who are aware of local and state facilities, services, and needs.

The task force planning Leadership Perryton XIII includes Frances Aston, Wes Beal, Cyndi Bollinger, Shawn Campbell, Jamie Casdorph, Dru Chidester, Rebecca Cruse, Dent Felix, Emma Graves, Sheryl Hardy, Jim Powell, Cynthia Shattles, Kiki Shaw, Michelle Uptergrove, and Brandy Williamson.
